more Repurposeful crafts

the other part of my high school drawing board from mech drawing classes was the old wooden T square, which I turned into a bright wind chime, with chimes from a broken one.

And this stool was a piece of decking lumber, fished out of the lake and smoothed by the water. I got these little legs and the attaching pieces at lowes and fixed it right up. It's either going to hold flowers at the lake or my crap in the bedroom, or perhaps some frog and bunny statues. Not sure , but i am sure I will walk around with it looking for the perfect place, much as I do art work I am wanting to hang.

Works in progress

this is a chalk board, in the middle. It originally was my high school drafting board, and now it is repurpsed to a message board.
Habitat for Hunity's store "Repurose" I think that is the name, yielded some more cabinet doors begging for artowork. Good quality wood wanting to be painted on !

Overwhelmed, indoctrinated and Fed Speak

Sitting in a meeting and realizing that the project you are supposed to be in charge of and leading is bigger than your head....the realization that the train has left the station and you ain't on it....
"socialize your idea" - that is the new, old school term for floating ideas past other folks, or informal coordiantion and feedback."we need to socialize this " - since when are we mixing work and pleasure?

Re-purposefull designs

I always cruise the mark down shelves at Lowes and see what i can score - for the lake house or stuff I can use to make something. I found a set of wooden finals for a curtain rod for $5. After some decorating with paint, I am going to put some felt feet on them and perhaps cut the screws down, but voila! candle sticks....

This is a white tile with faint flowers in the glaze. I browsed some designs from some 'Arts & Crafts/ Mission style' clip art I bought and modified it, drew it and painted it. It still is a work in progress as it needs the black outlines on it. But you get the idea. Perhaps these might sell at the LKG flea market.

Happy Easte..Bunny Wisdom!

"I need to feel your touch again"

About a month ago, while driving to work, I saw some 'kids', walking down the street, must have been in high school or so. And the boy and girl were holding hands. It kinda struck me that you don't really see that any more, from the teens and twenties to even anyone these days. We are either going to fast and don't stop to touch, or the youth are way past the holding hands stage. It seems a shame, and it brought back memories about being in grade school and high school and having "crushes" and "liking" someone, and if things worked your way, and you got to "hold hands', esp in public....well, that was the biggest deal.

Intimacy is just more than sex, to me anyway....it is holding a hand and feeling love in that grasp, snuggling, a hug you don't pull away from, warmth from a smile or a simple touch.
the unspoken bonds between two souls....I think that is quickly getting lost these days of late.

Contractor vs Contractor - mtgs with laptops

Notice these days that folks drag their laptops to every meeting they attend? They strategically place them selves either by wall sockets [or like me bring and extension cord] to plug in and then go searching for a Lan drop [if their is no wireless available].

Get to the meeting early or you will be relegated to the back of the room - uncomfortable seats, no power outlet and damn sure no internet connection to check you mail. And not even your blackberry works back there !

Doesn't anyone pay attention to the briefer anymore?

St Paddy's Day or is that Daddy's day?

Happy St Patrick's Day to all...don't drink too much green beer !

Scooter - "you have the music in you"

Everyone has something special about them, their own music inside. Some are above average in a whole lot of things, some are superstars and practice all the time in just one thing, and some just are. Everyone has some special gift and it makes the world whole - a sum of the parts.

I look for the good more and more these days. I want to see the glow inside each and every...the good. Enjoy each and everyone's special talent - and share yours.

Too much food and the weight comes back

A long slow process of gaining weight without knowing it sometimes culminates in not feeling all that well, physically.

New signs for sale.....

Welcome to the lake, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

this last one was done on an used kitchen cabinet door that i got for $2 at the Habitat for Humanity , a re purposing shop, up on highway 1

The last of it...Stick a fork in me, I was done!

Now this flight is delayed due to weather not only in NY but here at Dulles!!
I sit on the tarmac for two hours plus while the FAA buts a ground hold on us. OK, back to the gate for fuel and lift off in 40 min, now wait they'll update us on a time, no really wait, "we're sorry, this flight is canx."

I deplane and throw in the towel...too much weather and too little time left

All that's left to do is call the 'rents, reassure my dad i'm not trying to fly out any more and wish mom happy birthday...the surprise was all on me.

Dulles Ordeal -#2

So the flight gets, dleayed then canceled and I scramble to find another flight earlier that the 3 PM flight they rebooked me on.... Good thing I didn't check any luggage ! so I have them put me on a standby flight that goes sooner than 3 PM, but due to the weather, who knows how sooner.

While sitting and waiting to see how much sooner will i get out, i get the rare opportunity to hear a well dressed and seemingly together bizman, take to his buddies like the two faced pig he was...["tell it like it is girlfren!"]

Can you tell I thought he was an opportunist jerk....there wasmore of the conversation that confirmed that that i am not recording. finally we he moved away from me, and walked the halls talking to his buddy, and i stayed fixated on the gate and airline personnel, hoping i would make the standby seats......and yes i did make it on the plane [which was only 20 min earlier by this time than the 3 PM which was now, 4, 5 PM

So here is my Dulles ordeal #1

in a few hastily and furtively drawn comics...

back from travel and off to the airport again for the big surprise.....

Sitting in the airport is some of the best people watching...you see just about everything...so i was killing time waiting for my plane [the first one]

The best laid plans.......But Happy 90th Mom!

I was in Florida last week on business, and this past Thursday was my Mom's 90th Birthday. I had planed on flying back from Orlando friday night, [which i did ] and then on SAturday morning flying to NY and driving out to Long Island to surprise her.

Well it wasn't for lack of trying and spending my whole saturday at Dulles Airport. The weather in NY and here did not cooperate. Either I was waiting for my plane, having my plane canx, re- booking into LGA vice JFK, having a seat and booking a standby on yet another plane, getting on the plane I was standby for, having the Dulles weather along with NY go crap, sitting on the tarmac for 2 1/2 hours in the plane andt hen having that plane canx.

AFter arriving at 1030 AM, it was now about 6:30PM when the plane pulled back to the gate and I deplaned and headed home. Even the parking lot ticket gate wouldn't let me out easily!

but after calling mom and dad, dad being a nervous wreck since a lot of the roads up there were under water, and they were calmed knowing i was safe and not in some vomit comet trying to land in NY, I wished her a happy birthday. She knew what it took and loved the fact I tried.

"where's my Mommy, Kel?"

Long short story - weather, competing meetings, snow, American Airlines, cancellations. Life sux'd yesterday, and the best laid plans went down the tubes. So I had to leave fuzzy boy behind in the capable hands of Kelley and Mike, our neighbors.
My anxiety has just about over taken me and I miss my little boy so much...and M & K have been great giving me Thrash updates and pix.

Doesn't he really look like he is saying he misses his mommy?

Thrash the explorer

thrash loves to play, eat, sniff , sleep and explore, esp if there are sunbeams involved. He also loves to stick his head thru the slats of railings and does this quite frequently at home. Here, however, he found a new vantage point at the lake house, and instead of coming when he was called he stuck his head thru , as if to say " You calling me?"
