the last dog days of summer

i hate the next to the last boat ride of the season.....

calm, no wind, and fitting of the last days of summer,,,,,, i hate it, but it is so peaceful, almost too peaceful.but it is what is it, the end of summer and the passing of another year

Yeah, I know I look fat and I am, but there is nothing more satisfying than enjoying water sports with m y little boyz, Thrash. He likes the slower pace of the kayak as much as the jet ski, but we just can't get to the ducks yet, no matter how we try to sneak up

Weekend with good friends

when you are in the military, it's a big family. and just like families, there are some that you see, avoid or tolerate and hope you don't run into them too often. And some you always stay in contact with, over miles, time and professions - and are thankful that they are in your lives...perhaps not every day, but you know they would be there in a flash if you ever needed them. My pals Judy and Joe are those kind of folks. The military brought us together, but friendships keeps us together.

so it was great that we were able to get together and spend some quality time at the lake, relaxing, boating and just enjoying.



And of course their little girl, Brandy, brought her toys and bed. Just seems Thrash had to try it out....don't tell him he doesn't fit in it.



My new hat for boatin'! And by the looks of the doggie pix, you would think they had a lovers spat. But as always with Thrash, food WAS involved!

Full House at the Lake

With nine of us at the lake this past weekend, I dare say it was fun and always hopping. Tom Buonforte , Marie his wife and almost all the kids plus a French exchange student in tow, descended on LKG with enough food to feed an army and fun on their minds.

I gotta thank the whole clan from the head man on down, coz if it weren't for their kindness, food and 'what can i do to help, Mrs Sielski?' I think my damn leg would have hurt so much from trying to keep up that I would have cut it off.....



and yes, we were able to pull two tubes so we had twice the spills and chills. In fact, after Chris, the little guy on the right got out, the 'teens up'd the stakes with demolition tube pull. There were some sore folks the next day for sure.

the three Amigo's...The puppy Bella is on the right, Owen in the middle. Bella and Thrash had a few 'dates' during the week, and now i think they both have long distance boy/girl friend!

Memorial Day -2008 - LKG Flea Market

Scenes from one of my sketch books. I was sitting trying to sell my flea market stuff as well as my artisitic signs.. the yuppies that I thought would appreciate my repurposed signs and art, sort of did, "oh isn't that cute", "wouldn't it look great in so and so's bathroom", "aren't you decorating in fish", "you do great work", "these are great"...Lookers and touchers but no buyers. Bah..

But the poorer folks, the 'rednecks', they bought stuff that baffled me, and probably didn't need to spend their money on..I literally watched some of them spend hours circling again and again the booths and tables in this literally small flea market, marking a purchase and placing it in their car or truck , then going back again. This went on and on ...in fact one of them continued to buy stuff from me ! But then just when you think you'd seen it all, as I was trying to pack up my stuff and load the jeep on my crutches, the woman helped me pack and load, just because.
Kindness is great when you find it in the most unusual places.....

So I am still searching for the right venue to show my art and hopefully make some sales

Spring is coming to the Lake! Thrash is waiting

Having to get down to the lake this weekend to meet the phone company workers who were going to re-trench some new lines to the house, i took the opportunity to take down the art I made and get ready for the memorial day weekend flea market.

My driftwood little bench also made it's way to the lake, and I put these statues on it for now, not sure it will stay there but for now that is where it will be. Also put this little froggy in the rabbit bird bath, froggy was a Target clearence find.


Thrash is waiting for Spring and the ducks in the distance to get closer. With another Target find, garden froggy on a stick..and he too, is waiting for spring and flowers to bloom.

The bushes 's are already in bloom down at the lake.


but the weeds are also in bloom as well!

Thrash and the weekend

So we went to the lake this past weekend to take care of some chores and take the boat out one last time. Needless to say, Thrash was a bit chilled and was content to snuggly up against me and under the blankie.



On land however, he was content to find sunny spots and I couldn't resist taking the photo of him crashing out in the sun among the concrete friends I have on the deck.


He also found a favorite spot on top of the one fancy pillow and smack dab in the middle of the bed. But it really is his bed, now isn't it?

Nothing says Labor Day like....

Friends, family, LKG, water and birthdays. Mike and Kel, our neighbors, helped us bring an end [premature to me] to the summer during the Labor Day weekend. Much too short a time, and it was kinda sad and quiet come Monday, as the days get shorter and shorter and the inevitable cold will creep back into our lives.



And Thrash is talking to Rusty , while Toni is talking to me! Wonder what Thrash was thinking? [he was thinking how far a swim it was to the yellow jetski]

We also celebrated Tim's b-day at the lake, with Toni and Robin and Mike and Vickie and Nick and Andrew...Notice the knife in the Carvel cake?


This next shot below, is of the little boat dog who had had enough of cruising on the boat and came and bagged out under the boat steering wheel and in between my feet. I had to include the wheel in pix to prove where his little doggyness plopped down.

Birthday at the Lake !

after getting home from Dulles airport on Friday at midnight, and buzzing around for another hour, I got abut 4 hours sleep, got up and we went to the Lake. Tim drove and Thrash and I slept. As you can see, Mr Thrash can always find a comfy spot to snooze, no matter what he is wearing or where he is!



That night, over to Toni's house to celebrate birthdays as we always do in the summer and traditionally at the lake - Nick and I. This year Nick became a teenager, 13!. And I just got a bit older. Cake , Ice Cream, presents and a movie. Don't get no better...celebrating with friends and family.


Toni got me one of the coolest b-day gifts yet....Raider Croc's! How did she know I was looking at Crocs to buy? And these Oakland Raider ones are the best yet! I didn't even have the tag off them before i slipped 'em on. Thanks toni!
