some more artsy photos ala Photoshop

if i keep this up, I'll be investing in ink cartridges for my color printers....
this is a sun that is in one of the stone walls down at the lake house, but it's a blue art shot now :-)

things in the making

So I asked Tim to build me some easels to display my art on...and of course after copious research on the web, he found a plan. And with the trusty new compound mitre saw, I now have a great new display tool, and getting another one as well.
I also got some molding and had him cut it so i could make a frame around the art i painted on the particle board..this was a trial run. I painted, glued and nailed and voila! Repurposed materials that are turned into art!
and this is my little neighbor boy, Jai, who talks a mile a minuete, is quite smart for his age and wonderfully inquisitive. He wanted to know what i was doing in the garage, and how could i work on crutches, among other things. The only thing more precious is his sister Sarah.

work in progress...

not the best photo but you all get the idea :-)

DMV, Crocs and waiting for my second Gimp tag

can you tell i was bored waiting for my number to be called at the Chantilly DMV? I was waiting to get my second gimp tag, aka handicap parking. I was so naive, that I didn't realize I had to PAY for the damn thing. Wait, I though DMV was a state org, why are they charging me?

Art production.....

it always seems to be the messiest before i clean up, or at least while i am in the middle of stuff . but i guess it would help if i focused on one thing at a time. who woulda thunk?

Can you tell i am still lovin' working for Uncle SAm?

What do you get when you sell your house....

and only have a boat to go back to live on ?????

but Judy prefers to say Vagabonds....or Boat People ?

Now that the home is about in the throws of being sold, with only their BlueWater boat in Kentucky Lake to live on, Joe and Judy are now free to follow their hearts and the warm weather for a while. Till they figure out what they will do when they grow up :-)

Weekend with good friends

when you are in the military, it's a big family. and just like families, there are some that you see, avoid or tolerate and hope you don't run into them too often. And some you always stay in contact with, over miles, time and professions - and are thankful that they are in your lives...perhaps not every day, but you know they would be there in a flash if you ever needed them. My pals Judy and Joe are those kind of folks. The military brought us together, but friendships keeps us together.

so it was great that we were able to get together and spend some quality time at the lake, relaxing, boating and just enjoying.

And of course their little girl, Brandy, brought her toys and bed. Just seems Thrash had to try it out....don't tell him he doesn't fit in it.

My new hat for boatin'! And by the looks of the doggie pix, you would think they had a lovers spat. But as always with Thrash, food WAS involved!

Artsy fartsy chairs...and eco friendly too

With the way the sun hits the deck at the lake house, and my plastic Adirondack chairs taking a beating, i was looking for something sturdier to replace them. I liked the new ones made from the recycled plastic milk crates, but they were a tad too expensive and could find the colors i wanted. Welll......i went to the unfinished furniture store by me at lunch time last week, to get some wooden ones, and i was surprised to find a new batch of the eco milk crate chairs, much cheaper than i had seen and in wonderful colors. so of course, i had to get them.

So here they are, waiting to be taken to the lake....

and then i got to messing with this pix in Photoshop...and got a little artsy fartsy. for a first time try, kinda happy with the result. boy are we getting creative and experimental!

My creative juices are just flowing !

A Dream of a small child

Back when i was growing up , it was the hey day of the space race. I sincerely wanted to be an astronaut, and collected everything I could get my hands on. I wrote to NASA, got little brochures and stuff, and treasured them. My parents took me on the pilgramage to Cape Kennedy [who knew that all those years later, I would be traveling down there for work - Melbourne FL where I go to Harris Corp, is only 20 min from the cape and on what is now called the Space Coast - Coco Beach and such.]

During the summer of my junior and senior year in high school, thanks to model rocketry clubs and the people I met through it as well as the National Science Foundation, I even got to work at Goddard Space Flgiht Center.

Mom saved and cherished all the trinkets, photos and 'what not' from those times, even after I switched gears and pursued different professional paths. And last trip home, along with the tutu i showed earlier on my blog, she bestowed some of the remenants of a childs dream from long ago.

Office and the plants

More plants for the office! The pot on the left my mom gave me to take home to paint on this last trip. Wasn't till i looked at the bottom and saw her name and like 1985 on it that I realized that this was something she had made in the ceramics classes she used to go to . Mom's pot and krabie's art......loving reminder of her here in the office. And of course the other pot is one of the infamous Wild Women's done by the original Wild Woman !

this is one of the many calenders in my office....my other Boston Terrier calender is in my art studio at home. So no matter where I am sitting, I am always surrounded by my beloved Boston's :-) but I couldn't help post this page, since it is the exact PFD that Mr Thrash wears!

Lessons of Life...

A friend and colleague sent me this a few ago, and I think it is pretty good - and is a keeper, and a good read , again and again to keep on the path of the journey of life...kok

I FEARED BEING ALONE UNTIL I LEARNED TO LOVE MYSELF,

I FEARED FAILURE UNTIL I REALIZED THAT I ONLY FAIL
WHEN I DON'T TRY,

I FEARED SUCCESS UNTIL I REALIZED THAT I HAD TO TRY IN
ORDER TO BE HAPPY WITH MYSELF,

I FEARED PEOPLE'S OPINION UNTIL I LEARNED THAT PEOPLE WOULD
HAVE OPINIONS ABOUT ME ANYWAY,

I FEARED REJECTION UNTIL I LEARNED TO HAVE FAITH IN MYSELF,

I FEARED PAIN UNTIL I LEARNED THAT IT IS NECESSARY FOR GROWTH,

I FEARED THE TRUTH UNTIL I SAW THE UGLINESS IN LIES,

I FEARED LIFE UNTIL I EXPERIENCED ITS BEAUTY,

I FEARED DEATH UNTIL I REALIZED THAT IT'S NOT AN END, BUT A
BEGINNING,

I FEARED MY DESTINY UNTIL I REALIZED THAT I HAD THE POWER TO CHANGE MY LIFE,

I FEARED HATE UNTIL I SAW THAT IT WAS NOTHING MORE THAN
IGNORANCE

I FEARED LOVE UNTIL IT TOUCHED MY HEART WITH SUNSHINE

I FEARED RIDICULE UNTIL I LEARNED TO LAUGH AT MYSELF

I FEARED GROWING OLD UNTIL I REALIZED THAT I GAINED WISDOM EACH DAY

I FEARED THE FUTURE UNTIL I REALIZED THAT LIFE KEPT GETTING
BETTER

I FEARED THE PAST UNTIL I REALIZED THAT IT COULD NO LONGER HURT
ME,

I FEARED THE DARK UNTIL I SAW THE BEAUTY OF THE STARLIGHT,

I FEARED THE LIGHT UNTIL I LEARNED THE TRUTH GAVE ME STRENGTH, AND

I FEARED CHANGE UNTIL I SAW THAT EVEN THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY HAD TO UNDERGO A METAMORPHOSIS BEFORE IT COULD FLY.

Agony or Ecstasy ..figurative study

A work in progress...getting ready for the class I just signed up for yesterday at the Lorton Workhouse Arts, which is schedule to open this Sept. My class is in Oct...what a deal, I hope, taking art classes about a mile from my house ! Taking figure drawing - looking forward to getting some critiques and instruction . More to follow...:-)

Thrash loves to create and star in silly comics

Here is the draft version of the "perils of the bunny"...damn camera phone doesn't take that good of pix....or was it that there was no light in the garage?
And here is the sillier one that Thrash helped with :-)

My sweet sweet pop

My Dad told me something real sweet the other day when I called him up. He said he had a great day, and that he started the day by sitting on the bed next to my sleepy mom and telling her how much he loved her. He does this each and ever day, telling his woman of 61 years how much he loves her..I told you he had a passion for love and life.!

How many of us are lucky enough to have a significant other that takes the time to make sure they express their deepest love each day? If you are that lucky, it is a wonder and blessing to behold.

More memorabilia from my past - my report cards! and no, i didn't get an A in art all the time
